Is switching and shifting just looking from place to place quickly (near and far objects) in relaxation? I read the section in the library and am a little confused...

Switching and shifting on objects at close and far distances; both eyes, one eye at a time, both together again.
I use it once in a great while for about 3-10 miinutes for 2-3 days, night and get better than 20/20 close and far. Perfect, equally clear in both eyes.
Sometimes a slight convergence, accommodation... improvement is all that is needed to bring the vision to 20/20 then its just relaxation, shifting, central fixation, nutrition to stay 20/20 and better.
Reading fne print relaxed also improves vision at alll distances.

I want to thank the creator of this website for providing the wonderful information regarding natural eye improvement. It was because of this website and some others that I gave vision improvement a try. My vision and health has gradually improved since then. For me it's a very slow process, not like examples that I have read. While I do not practice everything that Bates says, his key points of relaxation and avoid strain seems to work for me. It's unfortunate how many people don't realize the damage wearing glasses is causing their entire body.

I have gladly enjoyed the company of various sites such as this one. I have the same problem as Kim just iterated, that is; I've been going on and off practicing Bates Method, and I have seen little results. I know now that my problem is persistence, I lack an ongoing determination.

I'm extremely thankful (especially when it works) for such an active community, You are all so great!

Hey Otis, were both doing the same research.
I found this by using central fixation.com search bar;

It's still a great resource.
Nobody else has this complete compilation of books, mags for free!
I notice that alot of other well know 'Bates websites' also have mispellings.
The owners must be doing OCR (Optical Charactor Recognition) on the original scans of Bates... work without truely reading, studing the books, magazines. Seem more interested in selling things than actually reading the stuff they print.

I've been doing eye exercises for almost a month and I've improved my vision by 1 diopter. I was -2,5 on the left, and -2,75 on the right eye. Two days ago I went to optometrist to check my vision and the results were that i have -1.5 on the left and -2 on the right eye. Good day to everyone and don't give up!!!

Rune,
I have found a free OCR software, low MB that works great to scan text.
Very little corrections to do after it converts to text.
I have completed June to December 1925 Better Eyesight Mags. and if you like I can give them to you.
Still needs some spell check...and remove some edits from last writer but basically tons of typing is done.
If you want the software, it is called s'imple ocr' and I will send the site address.
I am going to scan and convert to text some old 'copyright' free vision improvement books.

I have some flashes o slightly improved vision each time i tried the method. When i have nothing to do, i will spend my time palming and sunning. When i palm, i aim for 10min for a start then i gradually extend the duration of each session- now, i am able to palm for 20mmin and i am still trying to extend it longer. When i palm. i visualised a completely black letter upon a white background, i slowly trace along the outline of the letter and gradually, it became sharper and blacker. But i try not to keep my mind focussed on thinking about the black letter since Dr Bates said before that by trying to concentrate, u will create a strain to think which would result in a strain in the eyes. So, i allow my mind to wander from time to time and bring it back to the letter each time it wanders. After palming, i would stand by my window and face the sky with my eyes closed for 3mins. The sunlight shinning into my eyes brings about further relaxation. When i open my eyes, i find my vision slightly sharper then before and i try to maintain it there by constantly relaxing my eyes. It works!

I am only a reader of this site, like yourself,
but maybe I can give an answer to your question.

Mr. Bates actually does say, that the lens does not play any role in accomodation.

MacCracken explains this as something said in "the heat of the moment" as a reaction to the exaggerated belief of established opthalmology.

Established opthalmology believes, that the lenses are the only factor in accomodation, and even if the father of the thought was very unsure about it - it has become the established "fact" in opthalmology since then.

All the hundreds of millions of glasses prescribed and worn by the same number of hundred of millions of people in the world are prescribed and worn on the basis of this - - - - belief.

MacCracken says, that the role of the lenses is "fine tuning" if one may use a word like that.

I have been able to discard the glasses, that I have worn since I was a small child by studying and putting into practice the material on this site.

iblindness.org has a good forum.
Just ignore the people trying to sell plus lenses, contacts...
Some people posting on there advise looking into the sun for a long time.
I dont recommend this but do allow some sunlight exposure by sunning, going outside daily and other safe methods.

cleareyesight.info recently had to close down their guestbook due to constant abusive comments being posted by people that do not like the public learning the truth about Natural Vision Improvement and obtaining free Bates Magazines, training.

Hi Kim!
Thank you for your experiences and advices, I will cherish all of them. Now I'm more confident that I can cure myself than ever before. I have known that the most important principle is never give up, it's really important to me.

And the suggestion provided by Clark is also very valuable, I think. It inspired me that the mirror could be a good substitute for aquiring distant view, I have tried immediately after I read this.

Thanks a lot!

I find it funny that ophthalmologists and optometrists have practically dedicated their lives to studying the refraction of the eye, and are professionals of WRONG INFORMATION. I also like how eye doctors say that natural vision teachers are just "doing it to get your money" because we all know how much money is really in it for vision teachers compared to that for eye doctors.
Andrew <golfr7k1@gmail.com>
Tampa, USA - Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 18:06:25 (CDT)

Dear Veinnie.

I am only a "student" like yourself, and can only communicate on the basis of my own personal experience and on the basis of what I have read on central-fixation.com.

As to looking at a picture of distant sceneries, it would seem to me, that, even if it is a picture "with
distance", it still is the picture, one is looking at, and the picture is close at hand, so I don't think, that it will have the desired effect.

As to not wearing glasses, I also have read, that it is best to discard the glasses altogether.
However, in the books on central-fixation many cases of people, who have gotten their vision back very quickly, are mentioned.
This means, it seems to me, that the decisive factor in the whole thing is to get the cooperation of the mind.

My own "eye - history" is as follows:

As a little child I had a heavy squint in the left eye.
There was also, what I now know is called suppressed vision, in this left eye.
Both eyes were hypermetropic in different degrees, and about 15 years ago much astigmatism also set in.

When I was about 10 years of age, I was operated because of the squint.

When I read the material on this site, I naturally wanted to be able to see again, and I began with exercises - but not very successfully.
I kept thinking, that it would be impossible for me to recover sight, because the muscles of the eyes had been
tampered with in the operation, and because I also understood, that one should do without glasses, which I could not do.

I would do exercises - stop doing exercises - start doing exercises again, stopping again in despair, and so on - over a rather long time.

After all this, I at last asked myself, what it would be possible for me to do, and what I was willing to do steadily, without breaking off so often, because I felt, that the most important part was to keep at it, and not give up.

And so - I decided to exercise five minutes every day, and also read a little - if only a single paragraph - the important thing was to keep on, and not stop.
I also decided, that it would be possible for me to take off the glasses at least during meals, when I had to go to the toilet, when riding in the bus, in the train, when walking in the street and so on.
Coming to think about it, it WAS possible to go without glasses at least some of the time, and it also WAS possible exercise a little in the bus, during meals and so on. At least it would always be possible to direct the attention to one tiny tiny spot, and then move the attention to another tiny tiny spot.

In the beginning, I did just that - no more.

I was wearing glasses most of the time, and had to use magnifying glasses when there was something, that I really HAD to see.

At some time, I found, that it would be possible to extend the minimum exercise time to ten minutes each day.
It could not harm anything, and besides I was beginning
to appreciate the time thus spent.

All along, the exercises I have done are the exercises, I have read about in the books on central-fixation.

I exercise more now, read more - and still notice things in the texts, that I haven't really noticed before.

After about one and a half year like this, it quite suddenly became possible for me to discard the glasses - I suppose, that things in the mind must have loosened up - I don't know.

And so - after two years I now can function in the daily life without glasses, I can write this and read books (and home pages on the internet) without glasses, although I still need a magnifying glass to small print.

Kim <kim02@forum.dk>
Copenhagen, Denmark - Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 14:36:24 (CDT)

A mirror with a distant view is helpful if the mirror is even, no waves.
A picture of distant view is helpful but not same a real distant view since the picture is a flat surface, truely at only one distance so the eyes do not unconverge, unaccommodate much to look at it if its close to you.
The mirror is better because of the way light reflects in it from objects at differemnt distances in the mirror, the eyes do seem to converge, unconverge, accommodate, unaccommodate when looking close to far and far to close on objects at different distances in the mirror.

Friday, September 19, 2008 at 13:21:40 (CDT)

Dear Kim:
I'm so appreciated your answer, it does help me a lot.

Now I'm thinking about some practical issues about the application of Bates methods.

I'm almost 30 years old, and got serious myopia and astigmatism problems.

According to Bates methods, it is needed to discard glasses completely when we apply these methods, but my job needs me to read the computer screen for a long time everyday, so it seems impossible for me to discard my glasses. Is there any way to deal with this kind of contradiction?

Another question is we all know it's benefit for eyes' relaxation if we can see a distant view now and then—but there are not so many opportunities to look at real distant view in my workplace, so I'd like to know if the photos of the long-range scenery would also have the same beneficial effects on eyes as the real does?

Hi Veinnie.

These are commas ,,,,,,,,
These are periods .......

I have worn glasses since I was very little, and can now read a normal text ( I am in my sixties now ).

I don't think, that you need worry about your not seeing things with your eyes closed.

I haven't used those techniques myself, and I can read a normal text now - so it IS possible.

Read the books on the site and get a good idea about what it is really all about.

It is all about relaxation of the vision-center in the brain, and when one does not see properly, it is because one is trying to see - that is - making an effort.

It is the effort, that makes one see badly.

I have gotten my sight baack by reading the books on the site - getting an idea of what it is really all about - and then making the exercises, that I found were beneficial to me - so it is possible to improve one's sight without the visuallisation techniques.

So what can a layman say to other fellow-"students" - other than mention that it may be a good idea to read the books one more time.

There is so much good advise on all techniques.

Advice, that one does not really "get" when one first reads them.

I am trying Bates method for a few weeks, I believe this method would help me to cure my eyes' problems, but I just encountered a big problem that I can't see anything when I close my eyes (I mean I can't imaging to see anything clearly). It is the first time for me to recognize my brain is so intractable, it makes me feel terrible. Is there any methods can help me out of this kind of situation? I have been following the Bates method since Nov 2007. I started at -8.00 glasses, 5/200 eyesight measured on Snellen chart. As of August 1, 2008 I can now see at best 20/30 on the chart, though on average I see 20/70. HUGE improvement. (see my blog for more details http://sorrisi.wordpress.com)

Previously I made a comment for parents about getting plus lenses for their children. Now I realize through my own experience that glasses are dangerous, and there are easy ways to prevent myopia in the first place. Don't be lazy, read for yourself what Bates wrote in his book, magazines and published articles. He did many studies in schools which were repeated and verified by other doctors. He proved myopia is preventable and curable.

A lot of improvement is still needed, but I want to tell this as an encouragement for those who read it - the site has been down, and I suppose, it may happen again.

I do however hope, that the reason for it having been down is not site-name hi-jackers, who make money out of selling the site-name back to the original owner.

When i want to copy a web site to my computer and then to a disk
I usually click file on the internet explorer bar, then save as, then save to my documents.
pictures i save in my pictures.
i can then read every page when connected to internet but dont know if that will work if this site is not available.
I also select, copy and paste all text/pictures from every web page, link... to microsoft word and then i can read the entire site in word without internet connection.
